Goran Kajfeš – Tropiques – April 18, 2024

Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 19.30

The bandleader, trumpeter and composer Goran Kajfeš is one of the most noted and acclaimed Swedish jazz profiles of the 21st century. Tropiques plays a unique type of music that could be described as hypno-jazz. Music is created from a semi-improvised entrance that often takes as its starting point simple fragments – bass lines and melodies that are repeated, shifted and re-orchestrated in the moment. This is music that allows the listener to be in and become together with the sounds. Through long curves, both musicians and listeners are almost put into a state of trance where we are taken on a journey among colors that gradually leak into each other and shift. The artistic core contains a counter-commentary to the twisted fast food culture that is our time; the band’s music is a musical call for reflection and slowing down, through listening.

The debut album “Enso” received extremely positive reviews in Sweden and internationally, reviews that testified to a strong need for this music, perhaps because it says something about our time and the importance of being here, now.

This evening we will hear brand new music from the group’s brand new album Tell us (Wejazz) which was released on March 22, 2024, reinforced by a string section.
