Mariam Wallentin is an artist with a big heart, as thoughtful as she is musically bold. An Alice Coltrane for our time. Soulfulness meets music that makes us feel and think. With musical roots partly in improvisation, partly in pop and soul, Wallentin’s career has crossed several multifaceted territories; Wallentin is half of Wildbirds & Peacedrums and one of the creative forces in the jazz collective Fire! Orchestra. She has worked with bands such as Deerhof and Konono no 1, with choirs, string ensembles, symphony orchestras, sung for Björk and was in an experimental opera by noise musician Ben Frost. She has musical collaborations with Damien Rice and Leslie Feist, has won the Manifestpris, the Jazzkattenpris and has been nominated several times for the Grammis.
With her uncompromising approach to music, Wallentin started Mariam The Believer in 2012, in order to focus her expression into a more pop-oriented project. Mariam The Believer has released two acclaimed full-length albums on her own label Repeat Until Death. She has an ongoing series of EPs called “Instant Creativity”. Now her third full-length album in the series is recorded and soon ready to be released, “Breathing Techniques”. This evening offers both older songs in a new setting but not least recharge for the upcoming album. Breathe in, breathe out.
